In Loving Memory of Anne Jordan Madsen
July 9, 1939 – February 11, 2026
Anne Jordan Madsen, age 86, was gloriously welcomed into Heaven on February 11, 2026, to be with her Heavenly Father and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on July 9, 1939, in Williamston, North Carolina, Anne lived a life overflowing with faith, joy, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Anne was a proud graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1958. A first-generation college student at a time when financial resources were limited, she stepped forward in faith, trusting that God would provide a way . . . and He did. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the College of William & Mary and later received her Master’s Degree in Education from Old Dominion University.
She dedicated 37 years to serving and inspiring young people through Norfolk Public Schools. Anne began her career as a teacher and faithfully poured her heart into educating, mentoring, and uplifting countless students. Her leadership and passion ultimately led her to serve as Director of Library & Media Services for the school system before retiring. She was also a respected leader in her field, serving as president of VEMA and ADK. Education was never just a profession for Anne, it was her calling and her ministry.
Above all, Anne was a devoted and passionate Christian who deeply loved her Lord. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life and shone brightly in everything she did. She sought every opportunity to serve and care for others, whether through leading Bible studies, volunteering with 4Kids, serving faithfully in her church, or opening her home, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for years, to anyone in need. Anne didn’t just believe her faith; she lived it boldly every day.
Anne also had a lifelong love of music. She played clarinet, oboe, and xylophone in her younger years before becoming a wonderful pianist. She loved Broadway shows and the symphony, and she sang in the church choir with unmistakable enthusiasm, easily recognized by her animated expressions and joyful presence. Music was a source of joy, worship, and connection throughout her life.
She had a remarkable eye for beauty and a gift for creating beautiful spaces. Anne loved gardening and took great pride in her flower beds and vegetable gardens. After moving into her condo, she filled her surroundings with colorful potted plants and even helped start a beautification committee in her community. She also loved decorating, entertaining, and setting a beautiful table, and she never did anything halfway . . . especially when it came to hosting a good party.
Anne loved adventure and travel. She explored the country by motorcycle and convertible, visiting 46 national parks - documented with a scrapbook for nearly everyone of them! She also traveled extensively throughout Europe and even to Russia. Anne encouraged her children and grandchildren to embrace adventure, explore the world, try new things, and make a positive impact wherever they went.
Anne loved life wholeheartedly and was blessed to experience deep love in her life. Her first great love was the late Jimmy Jordan, the father of her children, David and Jennifer. She later found the love of her life in her devoted husband of 34 years, Alfred Madsen, whom she adored and treasured deeply. Anne is survived by her loving husband, Alfred; her son, David Jordan and his wife Stephanie, and her grandsons Jamie, Joey, and Jake; and her daughter, Jennifer Anne Deal and her husband Bob, and her granddaughters Rachel and Lauren. Nothing brought her greater pride or joy than her family.
Anne also amassed a treasure trove of extraordinary friendships throughout her life. Whether seeking a new adventure or enjoying quiet moments with friends, she embraced each day with enthusiasm and gratitude. Those who knew her were blessed beyond measure by her joy, generosity, and unwavering love.
While her family and friends miss her deeply, we are profoundly grateful for the gift of time shared with her and rejoice in the promise of reunion. Anne’s legacy of faith, love, service, and joy will live on in all those whose lives she touched.
She will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.

David and Jenna, your Mom was bigger than life. I don't remember a time I didn't know her through church. She was the life of the party, a helper to anyone who needed it and a friend to all. There's a void no one can fill but keep picturing her in Heaven whole physically and mentally. May God continue to wrap His arms around you and your family and comfort you as only He can.
