Recuerdos

Andy Trujillo was born April 4, 1948 in Oakland, California. His parents, Max & Sue Trujillo, lived in Crockett at the time of his birth and then eventually moved to the Bridgeside of Vallejo at 508 Grennan Street. He lived with his older brother Jimmy, older sister Helen, younger brother Michael, and his 2 younger sisters Boge and Patty. He went to Stefan Manor Elementary and Springtowne Junior High. He graduated from, as he loved to say, “Fouts Springs”. When Andy was 16, he was involved in a really bad car accident that left him hospitalized for over a year with a broken hip and fractured jaw. Over the years, he would have 7 more hip replacements, but he would battle back each time. He met Lealice, the love of his life when they were 14 and 15 year olds. They were introduced to each other by Lealice’s best friend to this day, Lorelei. In 1969 they got married and had a baby on the way. The day before Lealice was about to deliver their son, Andy’s brother Jimmy was killed in a car accident on the Carquinez Bridge. Heartbroken, they named their first son after his brother as a way to honor his name. In 1974, they had their daughter Andrea and now their family was complete. Andy raised his family in Rancho Vallejo at 140 Kilty Court and then 140 Martel Court, until he eventually moved to 1314 Amador Street in 1984. I’m sure most people here today have spent time at Amador street and probably half of us have lived in the “Back House”. In 1985, Andy took in Jim’s best friend Joe Battle and also raised him like his own. He has always been there when anyone was down on their luck or needed a place to stay. Andy has 10 grandkids, Drew, Johnny, Sami, Anthony, Tayler, Tiana, Gabby, Jimmy, Jazi & Joey. He has 1 great grandkid and 2 on the way. He is Uncle to Beets, Trina, Nick, Ray, Remy, Brandy, Ricky & Stacy. Andy was know as Bug, by his closest friends, and Lealice was his LadyBug. He was married for 53 loving years to his best friend and soul mate. Andy volunteered for over 20 years at the Vallejo Pal Boxing Center. He worked hard to keep the program alive, moving several times until finally ending up at its current home on Marin Street. When he finally decided to retire in 2018, he handed the ring over to one of his former boxers that he trained as a kid, Tyler Terraza. Andy loved being with his family, loved his sisters, missed his parents and brothers, missed his brother in law Big Rick, loved camping, going to the horse races, visiting Lake Tahoe, shooting pool and watching boxing. He battled cancer for the last year of his life and fought all 12 rounds until he passed away on April 13, 2022. He will be missed by all, and although he is gone for now, but he will never be forgotten.
