With the passage of this year, I am thinking of all those who were close to Andrew and for whom time does not fill the gap of his absence. My hope is that his memory be bright in your hearts and his joy continue to light up a path forward. Andrew is missed so dearly. With love and remembrance.

I last saw Andrew on July 22nd, 2021. It is so hard to believe a year has passed since that time. He, Caitlin and Henry were with us at our farm in West Virginia. Andrew loved this place - hiking in the woods, following streams down the mountain, exploring the lake, cracking rocks looking for fossils. He spent many childhood hours exploring nature in this inholding in the George Washington National Forest. He had not returned to this place in many years and relished showing Caitlin and Henry his favorite spots. While it is sad now to return, it is yet another place where Andrew's place is felt acutely. I think of him every day, miss him immeasurably and pray that he is at peace.

Dear Caitlin and Andrew's family, I am sending my deepest condolences. I lived with Andrew, Caitlin, and The Dudes for a school year while at UO. I will never forget my first night in Eugene after leaving my family and friends back home. I knew no one in Oregon. But my new roommates Andrew and Caitlin surprised me and took me to a concert to cheer me up for my birthday. From that point on, they were nothing but kind, warm, and welcoming to me. I knew Andrew during his first years dating Caitlin, and I saw their love for each other ran so deep. From the smiles and hugs when one of them came home from class to cooking together in the kitchen. There are very few couples I met (and had the honor to live with!) that treated each other with such patience and kindness every day. A model for friendship and love that we can all only aspire to be. Caitlin, I am thinking of you and sending BIG hugs from New York. <3, Brooke

This is an homage to the Barnett-Dutterer DNA fishing genes passed down through the generations. The first picture, top left, shows my Dad, R.J. Barnett in Alaska where he was stationed during WW II as a helicopter test pilot. His fishing success was recognized in a letter from Jack Dunham, Fishing Contest Editor, Field and Stream dated August 27, 1945. It recognizes R.J.'s submission of an 18 pound lake trout, the first submission to the F and S contest from Alaska. He was awarded an Honor Badge for this catch. Andrew kept this photo next to his fly tying desk. In the second picture, Andrew proudly displays his catch from the Union Mills, Maryland community pond. He fished there with Dennis's father, Alton and kept this photo on his desk as well. In the third photo, many will recognize Andrew in his element, casting into the river, hoping for a beautiful fish, following his passion. May all of you pursue your passion wherever you find it. Blessings to all.

Dear Dutterer Family, Having just learned of Andrew's passing, I wanted to reach out to express my deepest condolences and share my memory of your beautiful son, husband, father, brother and friend. We were in the same grade at New Trier and, although we did not know each other well, Andrew exuded such intense kindness. I remember virtually every girl was in love with Andrew at some point! They always mentioned his kind brown eyes. Even to those of us who did not have the chance to know Andrew well, his goofy, cool yet sweet personality, sportiness, calmness and kindness still stick with me, and I have often wondered what such a lovely lovely person wound up doing. I am so glad and inspired to know he spent his days making the world a better place through environmental activism and had such a beautiful wife and son. My heart breaks for Caitlin, Henry, and all of Andrew's loved ones. He always brightened our school and the world and I will always have only the nicest memories of him. I am so very very sorry for your tragic, devastating loss. The world was truly a better place for Andrew being in it; I hope you can find some peace in your memories of him. Thank you for sharing more about his short but beautiful life here. And, to his parents, thank you for bringing such a kind, loving, warm and good person into the world. I know he will live on in Henry. With deepest sympathy, Ellen Behrstock Sherratt
