30 juillet 1975 - 13 août 2021
Alex was a gentle and loving brother, son and friend. He had so many skills and talents. He held a B.A. in English Literature from Portland State University. As a published poet, most of his poems are about nature, animals, tools and artwork. Alex worked as a naturalist for the Portland Audobon Society, backcountry ranger and firefigheter in the Olympic National Park. He was also a primitive survival instructor in Southern Utah. He practiced Aikido for over 10 years. He enjoyed traveling and snow camping. Alex was also a charcuterist, making coppa, lomo and prosciutto. He was known for his fruit tarts, some even baked over a fire while camping. Alex died by suicide on August 13th, 2021. He is dearly missed.

It's hard to believe it's almost been a year since we lost Alex. We are holding a remembrance BBQ on August 13th.

I am heartbroken to hear of Alex's passing. While we only met once, he was one of my favorite interviews on my old EcoGrrl blog back in 2013 and I am just learning about this now (I had wanted to interview him again for a follow up to the series). Here is the interview for family/friends who may not have seen it the first time around: https://belovedfarms.wixsite.com/belovedfarms/post/the-ecogrrl-interview-alex

Here's the new invitation with the new date of August 27th. We hope to see you then!

Almost every day, something comes up that I'd love to talk to Alex about. But he lives on in how I think about all of them. My mom came across this photo and I thought I'd share. Scouts was a big part of our lives back then.

Read your poems and thought of the blessings that exploring wilderness brings us. The poems transported me to places in my memory. Sorry for your family’s grief. May this next adventure soothe your soul. Thank you for your writings
