I met Alan in 6th grade. We walked to school together while in Jr. Hi. I saw a aide of him that most people from school didn't see. He was a good friend and he was hilarious! I doubt many of you heard his rendition of Rubber Duckie. We also went to movies on occasion. Best one was the classic, and newly released, Monty Python and the Holy Grail! I always hoped we'd met again. I miss my friend.

Dear Sally Luo and family, I am absolutely HEARTBROKEN to receive this very sad news. I’m still in shock over it. Alan was a very dear classmate of mine. We both graduated from Amityville Memorial High School (Class of 1979). My memories of Alan are very warm and fond indeed. He was both highly intelligent, very personable with a great sense of humor, and we shared similar interests. During our senior year during Halloween dress up day, I donned a red mask and cape… announcing myself to my classmates as the superhero The Crimson Avenger! Alan would follow suit (sans costume) and dub himself as The Chromatic Crusader!!! it’s something that we would often talk and laugh about during our conversations on Facebook from time to time over the years. I was hoping to somehow meet up with Alan at some point should he ever travel back to New York and share some stinky tofu with him in Chinatown. I am truly saddened that we were unable to have that meeting. I hadn’t seen Alan since high school, and I was truly looking forward to reuniting with him for a visit. To you and all of your family who loved Alan so dearly, I offer my heart felt condolences to all of you at this very difficult time. May our Heavenly Father both comfort and strengthen all of you. Please Rest In Peace my dear friend Alan Greenfield. Your pain and struggle are no more. Please know that I will have a serving of stinky tofu in memory of you with much sadness in my heart and tears in my eyes. With Brotherly Love and always your friend, Tony 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💛💛💛

Hi, I am very saddened to hear of Alan's passing. I knew him many years ago in high school and I believe Jr High as well. I can't think of anyone who didn't like Alan. In my eyes he was a gentile giant. Always a hello always kind. May he rest in eternal peace

Like some others who have left tributes here, I was Alan’s classmate at Swarthmore. He stood out clearly as a brilliant, kind, and tremendously funny guy — in a word, memorable. In later years, I enjoyed being connected with Alan on Facebook, where he came across as a whimsical cat dad and a loving family man. So sorry to hear that we’ve lost him.
