I met Dr. Ayoade as a Youth Corper at Makurdi, Benue State in 1990. I was posted to Ankpa which I believe is now in Kogi State. I did not like my posting so I returned to the NYSC office in Makurdi within 12 hours of arriving at Ankpa. Dr. Ayoade drove into the NYSC facility in his Volkswagen Rio and someone mentioned to me that he was from University of Agriculture Makurdi. As he was about to enter the office, I gave hot pursuit. In about 15 seconds, I had introduced myself, mentioned to him that I am a Graduate of University of Ife with a degree in Agriculture and I would do whatever assignment he could find for me. He was taken aback, smiled and kept walking but was listening to me. He then said from your last name, you must be from Abeokuta. I said "Yes". He said he knew a Soetan family in Abeokuta that was the lineage of Chief Adegunle Soetan, the Aro of Egbaland at the time. I responded saying that was my late Grand Father. He kept saying I don't have any assignment at this time, that he was there to sign off his current Youth Corper who had just completed her service. I kept pleading with him that I will wash plates if he could assign me to do that. That was how I became his Graduate Assistant at University of Agriculture Makurdi. He arranged accommodation for me, a flat in North Bank of Makurdi and the rest is history. I left for United States in 1993. This was before the advent of cell phones. As a result, I lost contact with him. He has been on my mind for at least 15 years. I desperately wanted to thank him for helping a very young man at the time but I forgot his last name. I tried to reach anyone that may know him but all to no avail. Finally today, I was able to reach an old friend who was his student. She mentioned his name right off the bat and proceeded to talk about how great he was as a lecturer but more importantly as a person. She had heard something about him in recent past but was not sure. As a result, I Googled his name in an attempt to find his whereabouts. My search landed me on this page. I am so distraught with all types of emotions realizing that he had passed on to glory almost 2 years ago. I hope and pray his family reads this. Your Husband, Dad, Uncle, Brother, Lecturer, Colleague was a great man!! Very simple disposition, grounded, loved to joke around and always made you feel comfortable around him. I wish I had connected with him long before his passing to at least show my appreciation. Dr. John Adisa Ayoade, may your wonderful soul continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen!

Prof was such a nice, cheerful and happy go lucky man! Very optimistic, positive and doesn't worry about anything. He was a man well loved by students of every tribe at University of Agriculture, Makurdi. Prof was ready to help anybody, irrespective of the predicament you were going through,he will find time to talk to you about the whatever problem you are going through and he will find a solution for you. He was the man of the people to Uni Agric students and a go to person for any situation they are going through. Prof's death is a great loss to the entire UAM family. He was so kind and caring that he even accommodated people he didn't know. Prof's death to me personally was a total shock!!!! He was always sending me constantly, timely spiritual messages encouraging me in whatever situation I was going through. Thou his death was very painful,I take solace in the belief that his soul is resting in the bossom of the Lord. Sleep well my sweet Prof, until we meet to part no more!!!!! Adieu!!!!!

I met Prof. in my first year in University @ Markurdi when I was trying to change from Animal Production to Pharmacy, he needed to sign off as HOD, he looked at my grades and explained why I would struggle if he allowed it. I am glad he refused as this gave me a focus in life. I got to know him better and he took me under his wings. Before I graduated a few years later, he had become a brother, Mentor, role model and close family friend. He was full of life and always said to us "Pass through the University and let the university pass through you". He was firm but fair and never compromised on academic excellence, however he sometimes allows us to let our "hair down" at the appropriate time. He was an encourager and a giver, a good Husband and Father. I spoke to his a couple of months ago and he was his usual chirpy self not knowing that it was going to be the last time. Thank you Prof for all you did for me. Adieu!! You will be greatly missed. I pray that the Lord will Bless and keep your wife and children. Amen!!!!

Sir, I just heard about your passing. I recall with fondness, your visits to our home at the University of Benin, Benin City as well as me and my dad visiting your home in UAM, Makurdi... I also recall you dropped by to check on me when you were informed that I was in Makurdi as I had come for the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students annual national convention hosted that year by Benue State University. Such was the care you showed. I recall your very lively and animated self. May you rest in peace sir. May God comfort all your loved ones.
