Photography is painting with light.

A’lime Siame Marque, formerly known as Clifford Shorter Jr., passed away on August 1, 2026 at the age of 82 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born in Florida.

Cliff learned classical French cuisine at Detroit’s Hotel Pontchartrain and the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, and retired as a chef at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider in Waikiki. In Hollywood, he gave private tennis lessons to the stars, was a runner, and learned photography. He traded the heat of the kitchen for the outdoors, establishing himself as a professional photographer. He always said that photography was simply 'painting with light'—and through his lens, he captured everything from the raw energy of city streets to the timeless silhouette of Diamond Head and the endless, powerful rhythm of the ocean.

He relocated to Honolulu, where he resided for over 40 years.  He loved preparing meals for everyone, famous or not. He promoted healthy vegetarian eating and was full of energy.  He never met a stranger, was loved by all, and promoted love, peace, and joy.  Locals called him the Camera Man, and he became known for street and spiritual photography. During his final years, and at the end of his journey, he found peace and rededicated his life to Christ Jesus. His smile and encouraging pep talks will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Doretha, and sister, Wilma.

He is survived by his two children, Alfred Shorter with spouse Seneca and child Kaiu, and Dorothea Shorter, as well as his beloved siblings Jaunita with spouse Allen, Katie, Betty, Eliza, and Elaine, and family on the mainland who honored his memory with a memorial.  He will be deeply missed by his close friends and extended family in Hawaii who formed his cherished community there.

In accordance with his explicit wishes, no traditional funeral services will be held. Instead, his memory will be honored with an ocean paddle-out in Honolulu, Hawaii, where his ashes will be returned to the ocean.

A celebration of life and paddle-out ceremony will be held on November 1, 2026 at 4 p.m. HST at Kahana Bay Beach Park, has 52-222 Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula HI 96717 (From Honolulu, the parking lot is on the right.)

Please dress comfortably for the beach. In compliance with strict Honolulu marine protection guidelines, any floral offerings must be completely biodegradable; only loose flowers or unstrung leis may be released into the ocean to protect local sea life.

Cremation services were handled by Oahu Cemetery and Crematory.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Donna Welch, his dear friend and confidant; Lynn Hannye,  his dear friend and caregiver; the Goldsmith family paddlers for organizing this tribute; and to everyone for your ongoing love and support.

Aloha ʻoe, a hui hou kākou.
