I was saddened to hear the news of Martha’s passing. The McMakin’s hold a special place in my families heart, as the name of myself and youngest brother, Mac demonstrates. My oldest memory is spending thanksgiving with the whole family many moons ago and the most recent (and closest to my heart) was visiting a few years ago in Eagle, CO. I had the opportunity to spend time with Martha, Bill and Beth as an adult and I will keep those memories close to my heart.
All of my love and praying for those nearest.

Martha, you were an inspiration! I have shared your “elephant in the front yard” story with everyone I know. You really knew how to spin a yarn. I did always think you were fibbing about your age, however, because in our exercise class you were more limber than gals 20 to 30 years your junior. Knitting with you was always a joy. Just being with you was a joy. You were and will always be an inspiration. It was an honor to have known you, even for a short time!

Oh Martha, what a blessing it was to have met you three years ago on Horton Street. I knew we were right where we needed to be when I met you and Mac. You will forever hold a special place in my heart and the hearts of our three children. Ryker and I always enjoyed our visits with you and Mac. Mac never let Ryker leave without a handshake. What a great lesson that was for Ryker! You have inspired me to keep my flower gardens well loved. And I will keep your Christmas cactus glowing for years to come. After you moved to Denver, I cherished all of our telephone conversations. Just hearing your kind voice warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. God bless you and Mac. I will forever remember you both.

Oh how I miss Martha!
But then “Good friends are like stars, You don’t always see them, but you know they’re always there”. Martha gave me that plaque several years ago and it will always hang in my kitchen.
Martha and Mac were the first to welcome the Ahlgrens into the Horton St Neighborhood in Eagle, CO. From snowplowing driveways, sharing gardening secrets and bulbs and countless dinners; chicken from Costco, Tuna Hot-dish, and Thanksgiving dinner as part of the Mc Makin Family. Today I look for crocuses - Martha’s always came out first and she would let me know. Then whoever heard the humming birds first would call the other and we would get our nectar out.
Martha left an indelible mark on me - friendship, love and comfort when I needed it and lots of fun and laughter. I thought of her last week when I made her recipe for “Sherry Cake” with Sherry - delightful and stays fresh. Of course I was wearing one of her old aprons since I didn’t have any and she gave me hers. When I needed help with knitting, Martha was there and when we decided we wouldn’t exchange presents any more she gave me some of her knitting needles which I will always treasure. She and Mac put up with all our dogs and Luci absolutely adored Martha and knew her by name. (Dogs are smart.)
Today when I sit down to dinner I see her 2021 calendar with Quaker sayings. Two of the March sayings are; “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out” and “The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it.” Martha was all that and more.
We miss her.

I was so incredibly lucky and blessed to call this couple friends. Mac is 97 and still is such a wonderful conversationalist and Marth would have celebrated her 94th birthday next week. She slipped the surly bonds of earth today. My life was really enriched by them and she was my fast Prius driving friend to the end. Thank you darling Martha for showing me how to age and be a
Wonderful friend

Happy birthday Granny! I am so grateful for a lifetime of memories with thee. I remember thee teaching me how to tie my shoes in the back of a mini van, for giving me $20 for every 100 words per minute I learned to type on the computer, reading Haitian folklore in the car while Granddaddy was up in the glider. Thee and Granddaddy have fueled my love for travel, puzzles, word games, cross stitching, exploring, hiking, museums, camping, flying... I could go on! Thee has constantly supported all my crazy life choices from college to archaeology, commercial diving, welding, teaching English, to joining the Navy. I wouldn't have done a lot of these things without my family there to encourage and push me through all of it! Granny, I miss you and love you forever. I am so unbelievably grateful for the time I've been able to spend with thee, for all the phone calls, the emails, the e-cards (thee never forgot a birthday!), and for the endless love thee's shown me! Lots of love to thee!

- Carly

The world has lost a great example of a life well-lived...vivacious compassionate, giving!!! We enjoyed Martha & Mac as Dtown neighbors & stopped every year on our annual Colo "see & ski" trip for chicken salad lunch & laughter. Still smile remembering her novel rain gutter serving dish at a Pebblewoods picnic, her many hours volunteering @ Doylestown hospital, brisk walks around the "hood" and her fun-loving but no nonsense advice. Blessed to know her!!!

Martha was a Dear Friend. Also, her husband Mac. They were a couple who would anything for anybody. In fact, the assisted my mother, Janet, years ago. It was somewhere in the late 1970's or perhaps early 1908's. My Grandparents, the Perrys needed my mother, Janet's, help witih closing their home up in Weston, VT. Janet could never had done it by herself. She asked both Martha and Mac to venture up to Weston and clear out the house. They had to mark all of the furnishings with a special tag which would show which person in the family inherited that piece. It was a long tiring job. But the three of them as my mother stated to me enjoyed every minute. They would joke and even venture into the little town of Weston or nearby villages for a break. Once the moving van left, they took a picture of their car and it actually looked like a gypsy wagon. It was a station wagon and it was filled to the brim. But Martha made it a fun time with jokes and pranks with the help of Mac. If I could wish for anything it would be bring Dear Martha back so we could live all the fun times again. God Bless you Martha.

Martha was a wonderful long time friend of my mother's, June Evans. She was a loyal mail correspondent who even enticed Mom into trying to go "online" to receive her jokes and videos. Mom tried for awhile but never really got the hang of it and therefore is not able to send a message here as she has no computer. Is there an obituary somewhere online or in a newspaper that I could print up for Mom? Our sincere sympathy to the family. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Martha, by all accounts I've read and heard, she was a fun-loving character devoted to her family and friends. She will surely be missed but never forgotten.

i couldn't believe it. Martha is now an Angel. I remember meeting the "wonderful Martha" a childhood buddy of my mother, Janet Perry when visiting with Janet at their home in Doylestown. On this visit, Martha's mother happened to be there also and I think her sister, Nancy as well. At some point they started to play some card game. At some point during the game either Martha won or her mother would. I was watching and saw that each of them was cheating. I mentioned this to my mother, Janet, and she just started to laugh which embarrassed me. And more so when my mother told Martha. Martha then started to laugh and looked right at me and said something like, "Well, Dede, look who we learned from". And the whole room broke out in laughter. I only wish I could hear that wonderful laugh once more. God Bless you, Martha.
