Biography

Rebecca R. “Becky” Miera, age 90 of Ranchitos passed from this life to be with the Lord our God on November 11, 2016. Rebecca “Becky” was born on January 7, 1926. At age, 1 year 8 days, she lost her mother, Margarita Martinez and was immediately adopted by Rosendo and Irene Lopez of lower Ranchitos. Becky was a long life resident of Taos. Becky dedicated her life to her children. In addition to being a wife and mother, she took control of establishing family traditions by attending the Catholic Church. Faith carried her through hardships of surviving the death and loss of her mother, three husbands, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She enjoyed gathering family and friends to her home in Ranchitos, a special place that was and will always be headquarters for all family and friends. She pursued her interest in working as a nurse’s aid at Holy Cross Hospital and also ran a catering business with her best friend, Margarita Anaya. Becky had a thriving business sewing, which was a passion of hers, making and repairing clothes as well as making blankets for all her children, grandchildren and friends. After caring for her grandkids and running a daycare for many years she decided to attend GED classes. She was then hired with the Town of Taos as a receptionist, a lifelong dream of hers. Becky genuinely loved going to work at the Town of Taos. During her nine years of employment with the town she met many beloved co-workers whom to this day she remembers fondly. Co-workers still kept in touch and visited way after her retirement. She has been a major part of and served her community all of her life. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters, a church organization and an active life time member and chairperson of the VFW Auxiliary and also a member of the American War Mothers Organization. Her service to the community, easy quick smile, family gatherings, her courage, great cooking skills along with love of God and family will be remembered and heart fully missed.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Margarita Martinez, father, Enriquez Gomez, adoptive parents, Rosendo and Irene Lopez, brothers, Cipriano, Eloy, and Timoteo Pacheco and Cruz Vigil, sister, Delia Pacheco, husbands, Orlando Grant, Abelino DeVargas and Raul Miera Sr., infant sons, Ernest, Jacob, Antonio and Miguel DeVargas, daughter, Delia Hughes, grandsons, David Vargas Jr., Dwyane Hughes, Lloyd Grant and Henry Grant Jr., granddaughters, Geraldine Bittender and Julia DeVargas, daughter in law, Christine Vargas, grandson in-law, J.P.
