Biography


Mardell E. Bickel, 94, of Winterset, IA, formerly of Sacramento, CA died Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the Madison County Health Care System. She is survived by her son, Robert Bickel of Boulder City, NV; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Kenneth (Lorraine) Bickel of Anita, IA; a sister-in-law, Brenda Emerick of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren (Pamila Deichmann, Dorene White, Diane Winther, Morgan Bickel, Maria Sullivan, Chris Bickel and Ron Bickel), 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren.

Mardell was born February 23, 1911 in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence C. and Edna (Osborn) Emerick. She was united in marriage in 1929 to Kenneth Samual Bickel and to this union were born two sons, Robert and Kenneth. Mardell lived most of her adult life in Martinez, CA. Then retired to Sacramento, CA. Mardell worked as a librarian for many years, was an excellent homemaker, and an active church member. Mardell enjoyed painting, sewing, and reading. She was a member of United Methodist Church and Eastern Star/Rebecca Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth S. Bickel; and two brothers, Merle Emerick and Don Emerick, and her son Kenneth E. Bickel.
Visitation: 12:00 p.m., Sunday, October 16, 2005 at the United Congregation Church in Anita, Iowa.

Service: The family has directed memorial contributions to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 62015 Spruce Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95841. Phone number 916-332-0915.

Memorial: Mardell and Kenneth Bickel's cremated remains were scattered together atop Black Mountain. Black Mountian is part of the River Mountain Range and is located near Bounder City, NV. The view east is of Lake Mead and west of Las Vegas.
