Biography


Joe A. Ortega passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his father, Anastacio Ortega, Sr., his mother, Augustina (Gurule) Ortega, and his brothers: Henry, Edward (Dado), and Ruben Ortega.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nora Ortega; devoted daughters, Carla (Paul) Armijo, Suzanne (Fred) Cisneros, and Patricia Ortega; and his dear grandchildren, Ferbie Montano, Jr., Jade Montano, Matthew Armijo, Amanda Cisneros, and Jonathan Ortega whom he raised as a son. Joe is also survived by his brother, Mariano Ortega, and sisters; Martha Peinado, Margie Martinez, and Dolores Barkell, along with many nieces and nephews.
Joe owned and operated Capital City Towing and Ortega’s Towing for over forty years.
Dad was a true model of our Heavenly Father’s love for us. He gave us unconditional love, hilarious stories and life perspectives, and an extremely happy home. He loved mud bogging, traveling with his family, and most of all his classic cars. You could see him on Sundays cruising the Plaza in his 1972 Monte Carlo or his 1976 Lincoln Continental.
Joe was a President’s Club Member of the Santa Fe Boys and Girls Club, and was awarded their Junior Citizenship Award in 1954. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Fe, 710 Alto St., Santa Fe 87501.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 10:00 a.m. at the Rivera Family Funeral Home’s Kiva of Light Chapel, 417 E. Rodeo Rd. Burial will follow at the Memorial Garden’s Cemetery. Reception immediately following at Pecos Trail Cafe, 2239 Old Pecos Trail (next to the Pecos Trail Inn and Quail Run).
