Glenn E. Frease

Glenn Edward Frease passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at his home in Winterset, Iowa surrounded by his loving family.
A military service will be held at the Scranton Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 for those that would like to attend. A visitation will follow at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., Friday, concluding with a Celebration of Life service at 5:00 p.m.

Glenn was born October 15, 1925 to Olivene (Wheeler) Frease and Milo Frease in Scranton, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Scranton Community High School in 1943. While in high school, he lettered in basketball, football and baseball. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and started his service on October 13, 1943 where he served on LST 813 in the Pacific area, participating in three landings. He was a Radioman 3rd Class and worked in the Japanese Occupational Forces, working with mine sweepers, sweeping the harbors around Japan and transporting troops and equipment. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy on May 4, 1946.
Glenn married Mary Josephine Moorman, on December 8, 1946. They were married for 72 years. They had two sons; Michaele Alan “Mick” and Kim Stephen. Working first as a telegrapher and then a dispatcher for the Milwaukee Railroad, they made their home in various communities including Perry and Ottumwa. Glenn worked for the railroad for over 35 years, retiring in 1986. For the past 10 years, they have lived in Winterset.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones and the Chicago Cubs. He loved playing golf. Glenn’s retirement revolved around playing golf, so he and Jo spent their winters in Florida so that he could golf year round. If he wasn’t playing golf, he could be found reading, listening to music, raising flowers (roses), bird watching and spending time with his sons, grandsons and great grandchildren. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Jo; sons Michaele Alan (Kathy) of Florida and Kim Stephen (Dorothy) Frease of Winterset; five grandsons, Jeremey, Ryan, Chad, Clint and Jordan; a step grandson, Travis Kirk; and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother when he was age six; his father; his step mother; a brother, Richard Frease; and a sister, Mary Ellen Frette.
