Gerald Allen Kirscher, the third child of Elmer Charles and Phyllis Larena McNair Kirscher, was born March 11, 1945, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm, along with his siblings, Bernice and Robert, near Earlham, Iowa. In 1963 Gerald graduated from Earlham High School, and shortly thereafter joined the Air National Guard. Here he served his country faithfully achieving the rank of Airman Third Class. While in the National Guard he completed his education in Air Condition and Refrigeration at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.

Gerald worked for Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines as an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Engineer. This is where he met Virginia Stonehocker, and later married her on April 4, 1970 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. To this union two children were born, Monica and Brian, and they made their home in Carlisle and DeSoto. Gerald and Virginia later parted ways and he moved to Winterset where he worked at Northward Plaza for many years. Gerald enjoyed tinkering and being a handyman for his daughter Monica. He also liked taking motorcycle trips and working on his cars and trucks.

On Wednesday afternoon, April 28, 2010 Gerald died unexpectantly at his home in Winterset. He was 65 years old. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Bernice Baird in 1978; brother Robert in 2001; son-in-law, Shane Fizer in 2004; and a grandson, Joshua Cook. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Monica Fizer (friend, Harland Belcher); a son, Brian Kirscher (wife Barbi); his grandchildren, Kruse, Wesley, Kegan, Jessica, Greg (wife Stacy); a great-grandson, Gavin; special friends, Virginia and Keith Hawkins; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials in Gerald's name to be used at the discretion of the family will be appreciated.

Kirscher family: I worked with Jerry (as we knew him) at Iowa Methodist Hospital in the early 70s. He trained me and we had so much fun together. He was so funny and smiled alot. I just just had a phone conversation with him this winter (Feb?) talking about HVAC things and a few old at times. Sorry for your loss, he was a very nice person! Marv
