Biography


Dora Lou Guion, 87, of Winterset, died Wednesday from an apparent stroke, June 28, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends during this time. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 3, at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com.
Dora Lou Van Rossum, daughter of James and Ollie (Foreman) Van Rossum, was born April 20, 1930 in Monroe Township in Madison County near Lorimor, Iowa. She attended school at Lorimor before transferring to Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School in 1948. Dora Lou was united in marriage with Robert Guion on October 19, 1952, at the Christian Church in Barney.
Dora Lou worked at Verling Insurance for many years and later stayed at home to raise her two sons. She and Bob enjoyed traveling all over the United States and dancing any chance they had. Dora Lou was a talented cook and baker who enjoyed feeding family and friends. She also enjoyed playing Bridge. Dora Lou was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and especially loved holding her great grandson, Case Wayne.
Dora Lou is survived by two sons, Robert Guion, Jr.; Tim (Tami) Guion all of Winterset; two grandchildren, Tucker Guion and Tara Guion; one great grandson, Case Wayne Thompson; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ollie Van Rossum and husband, Bob Guion on September 8, 2015.
