Biografía

Lucy’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in Blue Hill, Maine and on Monday, May 28, 2018, in Manchester, Vermont.

Lucy was raised in Mancester, Vermont by her most loving and devoted maternal grandparents, Albert and Anna Kent, whom she adoringly called Grooney Father and Grooney. Lucy attended Burr and Burton Academy, graduating in 1972 and the University of Vermont graduating in 1980. While growing up in Manchester she loved to read, swim, ski and listen to her vast vinyl record collection. She worked as a dispatcher for the Manchester Police Department throughout her high school years and while attending the University of Vermont Lucy dispatched for numerous cab companies. After graduation, Lucy became a Volunteer in Service to America and served in Buffalo, NY for a year. Upon the conclusion of that commitment, Lucy returned to Burlington and learned to drive a city bus. Driving a bus could have a genetic component as her father made his career driving a bus from NYC to Philadelphia, PA. Lucy’s passion for travel began after she saved enough money to allow her and her peddle steal partner, at the time, to begin their car tour of the US. There weren’t many sites around the country they didn’t see and enjoy. Their tour concluded in Golden, Colorado where Lucy resided until her longing for the green mountains of Vermont become to powerful for her to resist.
On 2 Feb 1988 Lucy married her soul mate John Sisco in Burlington, Vermont. John’s family always said that Lucy was the best thing that ever happened to John and he readily agreed.
Not long after their marriage, Lucy and John moved to Nantucket, MA where she worked for Twig Perkins, LLC as his business partner and bookkeeper. In 1999, Lucy and John moved to Blue Hill, Maine in order for John to pursue his dream of building wooden sailing boats, Twig wouldn’t let Lucy leave the business behind so he built her a home office in their Blue Hill home. John was an avid fly fisherman and Lucy was perfectly content to sit on the river bank and read a book or play online scrabble, while John fished. One year, John’s fishing fever took them to Europe and the Czech Republic. From their home in Blue Hill, it was a long journey and John vowed never to “cross the pond” again. John’s feelings about “crossing the poind” didn’t stop Lucy from joining a high school friend on an girls adventure to Spain. John and Lucy enjoyed spending time during the winter months in Florida. For their 25th wedding anniversary they decided to celebrate at one of their favorite places, Bud N Mary’s Marina in Islamorada, Florida. They were joined by John’s best man and life long friend Henry and Lucy’s sister and brother along with their spouses. John and Henry would fish during the day and the entire party would celebrate the day’s catch at a local cook your own fish nearby. John and Lucy built a fish camp in Oakfield, Maine which allowed Lucy and John’s hound Annie to be comfortable while John fished. The property was large enough that their closest friends were invited to join them and build their own cabins on Lucy and John’s property. Both John and Lucy cherished their family and friends and loved to be surrounded by them. Unfortunately, John fishing days ended and he passed in Oct 2016 leaving Lucy, their cats, Trout, Fern, Maude and Alice, their Great Dane. After John’s passing, Lucy continued her work with Twig and the Town of Blue Hill as their Registrar of Voters. In the autumn of 2017, in preparation for her retirement, Lucy purchased a winter home in Leesburg, Florida where she planned to enjoy the sunshine and have a winter place for friends and family to gather. Lucy always searched for ways to honor her beloved grandparents and volunteered with her favorite local elder support charities, Thriving in Place and Friends in Action, in addition to supporting the Democratic Caucas. Lucy loved and cherished life and lived it to its fullest. She was devoted to her pets, family and vast family of friends. Lucy’s smile, wisdom and quick wit will be missed, always. Lucy’s life will be celebrated in Blue Hill, Maine and Manchester, Vermont at dates yet to be determined. Dates and locations of those events will be posted here when they are confirmed.

Happy earthy 65th birthday! I celebrate your time with me and miss you. I continue to see flamingos and know that you are with me. I especially missed you throughout our trip to England and Scotland. You would have loved the quaint small villages, rolling hills and especially the kind people. Last month, Uncle Bill joined your table and I’m sure you welcomed him with your open arms. Adoringly, B

I just heard of Lucy's passing but wanted to post something for those who might be checking back at this site. I was very close to Lucy through most of her time at UVM. She was my first love and remained very special to me through the years. We had a great group of friends at school and during summers in Manchester and Landgrove. I wish I had known earlier and attended the Manchester remembrance. I miss the great times we had with her family and friends in Manchester. We all miss you Lucy.

Lucy was a great person. One of those rare people you recognize instantly the moment you meet them - her love for people and animals, her humor, her humble approach to life was inspiring. She was a legend in our family even though we'd only known her for a few brief years in Vermont when she was just barely a teenager. She was my oldest sister's best friend during that time - and being total strangers in a strange world we all of us needed a friend. When we moved back to Spain and lost touch with her, she became a legend in our family. About 18 years ago I found her online. It was a marvelous moment for us all. I couldn't wait to get home and let everyone know I'd "FOUND LUCY!" She and my sister took up exactly where they'd left off 30+ years before because people of integrity always have lifelong friendships, how else could it be? What a great person she was. It's a great loss to the world.

Lucy, since our days sharing a house in Burlington, I've only seen you twice -- once when you and Rob paid me a surprise visit in Flagstaff, Arizona, and then again, many years afterwards, when my wife and I visited you and John (my first and only time meeting him) all too briefly in Blue Hill. I'm sorry for the long absences. I always thought we'd see each other again. On that Blue Hill visit we managed to mostly get caught up with each other and I learned of the fates of many of our Manchester friends. I remember especially our Earth Theater days.

This breaks my heart, Lucy and Jhon are the best couple I have ever met! I will cherish the laughter and bond that we have. You both will be forever in our hearts. You both truly missed! I will miss our fishing trip, our dinner times, and our laughter together. Lucy and Jhon are our dearest friend. My husband Dennis used to work with Jhon and thats how I met them. From then on we had great memories. Jhon teach me how to fly fishing where he gave me a fly fishing rod on my birthday four years ago. Last year April I had a great time spending with Lucy, she teached me how to crochet.. while I was out of my surgery... Until we meet Again. Xoxoxo.

I worked with Lucy for many years at the Burlington VT Police Department Dspatch Center when it was located on S Winooski Ave (current site of City Market). Lucy was an incredibly loving woman and I never once in all the years we worked together heard her raise her voice or lose her temper with any caller or office - even when they were first class arses (and that happened more often then I care to remember). She taught me to be me. I have often thought of her through the years and wondered how she was, I knew she was married and followed her career with the cab companies and her move to MA. I am happy she is reunited with John, but sad for me. I loved her very much. My prayers and sympathies and love go to her survivors - human and furry! v

Thank you, Brandi for your sweet words. Lucy remained as you remember her, steady, kind, generous, and loving. Including Lucy’s furry children made me smile. She loved her pets as much as she loved her humans. Blessings to you, always, Brenda

Lucy and I became friends in kindergarten and remained friends until last Friday. As I look back through my scrapbooks and journals, I see so many memories: pictures, poems, notes written in the middle of class. We played flute next to each other in the band, sang Godspell together in Bob Stannard's productions, wore funny "granny" dresses to parties in 5th grade, drove around in her first car, the LtD, skinny dipped, drank too much, fell for the same guys, played Hearts and ate chocolate chip cookies with Groonie, One of my most life changing moments was near the end of high school when Lucy told me to quit wasting my time feeling sorry for myself because I was beautiful inside and out. I listened and learned and grew up. I have so much to be thankful for having had Lucy in my life. Rest in peace, dear friend.

I think that I should let you know that John and Lucy would go out of their way when in Vermont to see their Uncle Pudge. My husband Alan C. Sisco loved them both like they were his own. We knew and loved them for their kindness and caring for all..Al always said, "How many nieces and nephews would bother doing that" He knew they were special..

Sheila, Thank you. I remember hearing John and Lucy’s love of Uncle Pudge during our visits to Blue Hill. John and Lucy were both THE BEST! Lucy and John were raised to love and honor their elders. The Kent’s were a close family similar to the Sisco’s. All of our relations from grandparents on down to the youngest cousin were and continue to be cherished.

Having Lucy join our family was the most wonderful thing! She fit right in from the start. Always the most positive and loving person. My parents loved her dearly as well as the rest of our family. John cherished her, always praised her and wasn’t afraid to let others know how special she was. John said the only holiday worth celebrating was their
anniversary. Lucy was always caring for others, from her nieces and nephew to her many elder friends. Such a special lady who I will miss dearly.

Our Sweet Lucy was a perfect fit into our family. She embraced our crazy family and accepted all of our special personalities. Many times she was the voice of reason. She was the Yin to John’s Yang and their love filled the room. I couldn’t have found a better wife for my brother or a better Sister for myself. We laughed and we cried. We shall miss her always.
