Julie Wei

Julie Wei was our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, granddaughter, colleague, and friend. She was a graduate of Lowell High ('01), UCLA ('05), and UC Davis School of Law - King Hall ('08). Among other things, she was a San Francisco native, a UCLA Chi Alpha Delta sister, and a real estate attorney at McGuireWoods LLP in Century City, where she was a zealous advocate for her clients and was dedicated to the firm's Food from the Bar campaign and pro bono work. She loved dogs, documentaries, international travel, fine whiskeys, the Giants, hiking, and scuba diving. She was a fashionista, a foodie, and most of all, a fiercely devoted and loyal friend.

In early 2015, Julie was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), a relatively rare but aggressive oral cancer. She underwent surgeries to remove the tumor in her salivary gland. Unfortunately, in 2016, she learned that the cancer had returned and had spread to her liver. Under the care of her oncology team, Julie underwent additional surgeries, chemotherapy, and other treatments to combat the disease, while continuing to work and travel the world. Beginning in September 2017, Julie devoted the time she had remaining to focusing on her health, family, and friends.

Those of us lucky enough to have known her well know that Julie was kind, determined, and scrappy, with a wicked sense of humor. Julie didn’t shy away from speaking her mind (or from anything for that matter). Those of us who witnessed firsthand her journey through cancer have been awed by the strength and resilience she exhibited throughout - all of us undoubtedly with the same realization that only Julie could and would have fought the disease with such poise, grace, and dignity. Even in some of her toughest moments, Julie strapped on her fiercest pair of boots, and she found a way to laugh.

On November 2, 2017, Julie passed at home with her family by her side. She is survived by her mother, father, and brothers Eric and Gary.
