We did not know Abel, except through stories told to us by Anna, Abel's sister. His death has brought her many memories, some that she had almost forgotten. Our hearts go out to his family and friends who are hurting at this time, with the loss of their loved ones. Our prayers are with you all. Rest in Peace, Abel. you will live on in the memories of those who loved and knew you.

Abel was a young teenager when I last saw him. I remember him as a gentle boy with a playful spirit, but perhaps a bit obstinate. Why even a teenager would deliberately eat food made of wheat when he knew it would give him a bad reaction, due to his food allergy, was hard to understand. But that was Abel as I remember him. Aside from his eating habits, I always found him cooperative, easy going, and enjoyable to be around.

My sympathy goes out to Abel's family, especially to his sister, Anna who has been an important part of my life since she was about two years old. And also to his mother, Maria (Viola as I knew her), who was also an important part of my life, and who I much admire for the work and efforts she's made over the years to help and guide all her children. I know she feels the special grief every parent feels when they lose a child. We the parents are supposed to go first.
